All timber can be grouped into 4 classes
Class 1- Withstands 50+ years exposed outside above ground.
Includes hardwoods such as Belian, Tallowwood, Pelawon, Ironbark, Yellow Cedar.
Class 2- Withstands 30 years exposed outside above ground.
Includes Blackbutt, Merbau, Spotted Gum, Batu, Western Red Cedar, River Red Gum.
Class 3- Withstands 15 years exposed outside above ground.
Includes Sydney Blue Gum, Kapur, Brush Box, Rose/Flooded Gum, Taun, Kempas.
Class 4- Withstands 5-8 years exposed outside above ground.
Includes Baltic Pine, Radiata Pine, Tasmanian Oak, Oregon, Victorian Ash.
Composite decking is a class of its own. It is made from recycled wood and plastic. It has the look and smell of wood, but the durability of plastic. It is available in a variety of colours and requires no annual maintenance.
